Honourable Member of Parliament Shri P.Viswanathan, representing the Kancheepuram Constituency visited DAE facilities at Kalpakkam on December 10, 2011. He was accompanied by a large number of people's representatives from the surrounding villages of Kalpakkam. He met the senior colleagues of the DAE Facilities at Kalpakkam, lead by Shri S.C. Chetal, Director, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Project Director, BHAVINI and Shri C.D. Rajput, Chief Superintendent, MAPS. Presentations were made giving the details of the safety aspects of the Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS), Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR) and the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) under construction. Details about the safety measures relating to, earthquake, Tsunami and cyclone, were discussed. To a query of Shri P. Viswanathan, about the public concern relating to the radiation, it was clarified that the exposure to the general public is much lower than that is permitted by Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB). |

Details of the developmental activities being carried out in the neighbouring villages were presented to the visiting team. Later the Honourable Member of Parliament visited the construction site of PFBR, operating reactors of the Madras Atomic Power Station and the Fast Breeder Test Reactor. |
