Technology Developed

Indigenous development of Pre-print Server by SIRD to enforce Guidelines to authorship and Publications of Papers at IGCAR
  • IGCAR is committed to ensuring the highest ethical standards in its publications, conforming to the principles of honesty, fairness, and scientific integrity. SIRD was entrusted with the task of developing a Pre-prints portal (Figure-1). SIRD manages the institutional publications through the pre-print management portal and archival systems. The Pre-Prints server facilitates co-author review, approval of the superiors, and plagiarism checking mechanisms to the manuscripts uploaded by the corresponding author. The approving authority is responsible to check if the data to be published is not classified data of the department. Additionally, journal selection for the preprints is from the UGC-CARE list included in the portal to ensure publications are on indexed journals. Automatic email alerts, lockout of periods, version management, docket number generation are special features implemented.
SIRD

Digitally Transformed Research Library
  • RFID-based integrated library management system (ILMS) based on open-source KOHA is implemented at IGCAR Library. Latest RFID devices (figure-3) such as electronic article surveillance gates, hand-held readers, programming stations, and new generation tags are commissioned for smooth library operations. The article surveillance gate was integrated to the ILMS and programmed to display the unauthorized checkouts in addition to an audio alarm. The Library membership cards were integrated to employee cards of various Units of DAE at Kalpakkam. The Library entry is protected by RFID, which allows all Personnel from any DAE unit visiting IGCAR. The centralized Library Gateway Portal (LGP) of SIRD (Figure-2) is an access point to all the subscribed and in-house information resources and services.

  • The standards, Journal platforms, full-text databases, citation databases, dissertation databases, the institutional repository of IGCAR, the ILL, the photo gallery, video libraries, in-house publications on digital racks, etc., are a few of the features of the LGP. Off-Campus access to the subscribed e-resources is facilitated through a cloud-based application / mobile app (Figure-4).

IGCAR instance of Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS)
SIRD
  • SIRD is the nodal agent which has played a key role in creating the IGCAR instance of IRINS. The portal ingests the scholarly publication from various sources such as academic identity such as ORCID ID, Scopus ID, Research ID, Microsoft Academic ID, Google Scholar ID, etc. The portal reports the H index of publications, altmetrics, crossref, citations with filters on experts, subjects, scientist*(grade), etc. and for each individual, author collaboration graph, list of publications up to abstract level, H indices would be readily available. The instance of IGCAR IRINS is https://igcar.irins.org/ (Figure-5).
  • Three auditoriums viz., Sarabhai, Convention Centre, and Ramana auditoriums, with seating capacities 300, 180, and 90 respectively, are operated and maintained by SIRD. These auditoriums are equipped with a state-of-the-art digital audio conferencing system and HDMI-based projection facilities. Live Video Streaming facility is installed in Sarabhai Auditorium to live-stream the events across the IGCAR intranet and internet (Figure-6). The entire event is documented by photography and videography services by SIRD. Recently, a non-linear editing lab is installed in SIRD to edit the videos into short films with necessary audio mixing and voice-over.
SIRD
Centralized Institutional Repository
  • SIRD is the hub for maintaining the knowledge document of the center. It has installed, configured, and commissioned the open-source software, namely Dspace with Dublin core metadata format and OAI-PMH standard for interoperability. Extensive customization in the Metadata registry, Item Display, Browse fields, Browse Layout, Discovery, etc., are done. Additionally, a web-based IGCAR Research Contribution database is developed to house the scholarly publications of IGCAR.
SIRD
  • The Library compiled the scientific progress, events, new facilities, infrastructure, basic research, technology transfers, information on incubation, societal benefit programs, and biodiversity documentation and published it as Annual Report. An ISSN-based newsletter with the latest progress in experiments, expert opinion, theses, the events, awards, and honors of individuals are published every quarterly (Figure-7).
Citation Studies
  • Scientific Information Resource Center at IGCAR subscribes to citation databases viz. Web of Science and Scopus for supporting R&D activities. Google Scholar Citations Profile has been created for individual groups within IGCAR to measure the research impact of publications. Top cited journal papers, journal impact factor, H-index, G-index, i10, and other citation metrics are provided periodically for NAAC, UGC, HBNI, and collaborative institutions. Citation data are provided for the scientists and researchers, for individual promotions, awards nomination, fellowship, and providing PRIS (Performance Incentives Schemes) for the department. E-mail alerts were created in the publisher websites and citation databases to receive metadata of newly published articles through e-mails. They are the critical sources for updating the centralized publication repository maintained by SIRD.
Biodiversity Documentation
  • The scientific information resource division at IGCAR has taken the job of documenting the biodiversity of the DAE campus at Kalpakkam by recording the avian species that regularly visit the area to breed and the species that are native to this land. It is challenging to photograph birds as many of them are cryptic and shy away from human presence. Getting good photographs of rare and seasonal visitors is even more challenging.
  • To make the investigation more scientific and accurate, renowned scientists from Salim Ali School of Ornithology and Nature were approached for identification and authentication. As a first phase SIRD has published a book on birds called “Our Feathered Friends @ DAE Kalpakkam Complex – A glance through the lens” (as shown in fig-) with ISBN and SIRD, IGCAR is the Publisher.
