IGCAR has organised one day event on “Generation of Magic Squares” of 750 squares with 75 students from nearby eight Govt. Higher Secondary Schools of Kalpakkam, using 75 important dates of milestone activities of DAE. The event was conducted on 22-08-2022, in the Govt Higher Sec School, Sadurangapattinam. The program was conducted by Shri T .R Jothilingam, , a former Station Superintendent at Koodal Nagar railway station, who is now on a mission to make learning of arithmetic a joyful experience. In this event 4x4 matrixes were created using month and year of the milestone dates. Ex. Aug 1948 – AEET Established- 8+19+4+8=39 (magic square with sum 39) . A Tamil Song about Atoms in the service of Nation was composed by a Tamil Teacher from Pavalaru Govt higher Secondary Tamil School, Kalpakkam and sung by the Students of Class I.
On the occasion of India’s 75th year of independence, awareness was created about the contribution of nuclear power to the country through a sand sculpture at Kalpakkam.
In view of the 75th anniversary of our country’s independence, the Central Department of Culture advised to create awareness through arts in all central departments.
Subsequently, the Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic Research of the Department of Atomic Energy and Public Works Services jointly celebrated the ‘Iconic’ week at Kalpakkam. Schools and nearby villages conducted awareness programs about this. Yesterday, sand sculptures were created on the beach in the urban area to create awareness.
Chengalpattu Revenue Commissioner Sajeevana unveiled a sand sculpture illustrating the contribution of the nuclear power industry in power generation, medical treatment, food security and agricultural development, nuclear research and development, and water supply development.
Dr. B. Venkataraman, Director of Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic Research, explained the contribution of nuclear power to the country and explained the special features of Kalpakkam as the only place in the country to study nuclear power generation in model calan, primary power generation Chennai nuclear power plant, secondary power generation prototype Vega Einulai.
As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations a series of programmes were being organised by IGCAR, Kalpakkam, during the Iconic Week 22 08 2022 to 28 08 2022. Anu Walkathon was organized on 28 August 2022 by IGCAR at Elliot’s beach Chennai. Dr. B. Venkaraman, Director IGCAR welcomed the gathering and Shri S Raghupathy , Director ED&TG and Director EIG briefed the participants about DAE and its activities. The walkathon was flagged of by Shri R.K.Kaushal Special Director General, CPWD and Dr G. A. Ramadass, Director NIOT from Rajaji Bhavan , Besant Nagar and with necessary Police support the Anu Walkathon team proceeded to the Elliot’s beach , Besant Nagar. 150 students from various city colleges and 100 public including DAE employees both serving and retired participated in the walk for NUCLEAR ENERGY. The participants were addressed by all senior officers from CPWD, NIOT, Madras University, Ariviyal Sangham and IGCAR. Then we walked back to Rajaji Bhavan and completed the walk. All police personnel, NSS coordinators and the eminent guests from other departments were facilitated. The walkathon covered 2 Km stretch and was well appreciated by all the participants. The student participants pledged their support for Nuclear Energy. We acknowledge the support of Ministry of Youth Affairs & sports, CPWD and Tamilnadu Police department for the success of the event.
On the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, and Anu Awareness Week, A one day program was conducted at DG Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam, Chennai on 26th August 2022 for the graduate and post graduate students in Chemistry and Physics. About 200 students, research scholars and faculty members of the College participated in the program. The program was inaugurated by Dr. N. Sivaraman, Director, MC&MFCG, IGCAR followed by a lecture on Evolution of Nuclear Energy, DAE & Indian Scientists Contributions. The program included an interesting demonstration experiment performed by Dr. N. Ramanathan, Head, ACSSS, FChD, MC&MFCG, IGCAR, which was highly appreciated by the students. A lecture on Applications of Radioisotopes with DAE’s role was delivered by Dr C V S Brahmananda Rao, Head SCMSS, FChD, MC&MFCG, IGCAR. Career Opportunities for students in DAE was delivered by Dr. V. Jayaraman, AD, FMCG, MC&MFCG, IGCAR followed by the interactive session with the students. The program was very well received by participants and was highly appreciated. Participation Certificates for all students and Books for Quiz winners were distributed.
As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav events a series of programmes that were being held by IGCAR, Kalpakkam, during the Iconic Week 22 08 2022 to 28 08 2022, on the 24th of August 2022, a special programme was held to highlight the achievement of the Department of Atomic Energy and its contributions towards works of societal importance at Stella Marris College, Chennai. Sister Anita Judith, Secretary, Sister Rosy Joseph, Principal, Dr. Shiny Vairamon, Vice Principal, Dr. Mary N L, Head, Chemistry Dept. participated along with many other faculty members in the programme which was attended by 100 students from both Physics and Chemistry streams. The programme comprised the following lectures; Welcome address by the Principal of Stella Marris College, lectures on the DAE activities of societal impact by Dr. K. Ananthasivan, Director, RpG, IGCAR, a talk on the basic concepts relevant to nuclear technology by Dr. N. Desigan and societal applications of nuclear energy by Dr. G.V.S. Ashok Kumar. In the afternoon a special demonstration programme was held, in which students received hands on experience in demonstrative experiments. The lectures were interactive and the students won many prizes by participating in this ex tempore quiz. The programme was well received and appreciated by all.
As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav events a series of programmes are being held by IGCAR. On the 24th of August 2022, a special programme was held to highlight the achievement of the Department of Atomic Energy and its contributions towards works of societal importance. In this programme, held at the Asan Memorial School at Nungambakkam Chennai, both faculty members and about 100 students of class 10th to 12th participated. Dr. K. Ananthasivan, Director, RpG, IGCAR in his address, highlighted the various programmes of DAE and their importance. Details of non-nuclear applications of nuclear technology were also explained to the students. Simple experiments were conducted to make the concepts in chemistry easier to understand. During these interactive lectures students actively answered the on the spot, quiz questions and won prizes. The programme concluded with a feed back session, formal vote of thanks and national anthem. These lecture and interactions were well received and the students and teachers suggested holding many such interactive programmes.

About 150 students, research scholars and faculty members participated in the program. The inaugural address was given by Dr N Sivaraman, Director, MC&MFCG, IGCAR which included the contribution of Indian scientists and Science in the last 75 years for the welfare of the nation with emphasis on Indian Nuclear Program. This was followed by demonstration experiments with explanation of the phenomenon, which was conducted by Dr. N. Ramanathan, Head, ACSSS, FChD, MC&MFCG, IGCAR. A lecture on Career Opportunities in DAE was delivered by Dr C V S Brahmananda Rao, Head SCMSS, FChD, MC&MFCG, IGCAR followed by the interactive session with the Students, Research Scholars and Faculty. The program was very well received by participants and was highly appreciated. Participation Certificates for all students and Books for Quiz winners were distributed.
