Planning

Until the XI Plan, all Capital Works of GSO were carried out under the IGCAR Capital Budget. In the XII Plan, for the first time, five Capital Projects have been sanctioned for GSO. The Planning Section is responsible for formulating and monitoring the Capital Projects with respect to budget planning and providing periodical reports to DAE.

Computer Engineering


The Computer Section at GSO was recently established with the main mandate of setting up independent infrastructure to provide Computer Network and Information Technology facilities to the GSO offices at Anupuram and Kalpakkam Townships. The Section is reponsible for enhancing the existing IT facilities, introducing new facilities, developing and implementing relevant applications of Information Technology to provide better service to the residents.

Network Connectivity :

One of the major tasks undertaken,is to provide Computer Network Connectivity within and between all the GSO offices at the two Townships, Viz - Anupuram and Kalpakkam, which are 10kms apart. Campus Network has been established at both Townships and the two townships have been linked through WAN. Internet facilities have been provided at offices, hostels and Guest houses.

Computerisation Activities : Inorder to improve efficiency and establish transparency, computerisation was initiated in various areas. Some of the them are listed below.

Administration :Service Books of all the employees have been digitised. This data is used by software packages such as HURIST : Human Resources Information Search Tool, Leave Record Maintenance package, Transport Booking package, PF-advanceprocessing and withdrawal package.

Online APAR (Annual Performance Appraisal Report) : The package for Online submission of APAR and Online assessment by Reporting Officers has been successfully implemented.

Biometric Attendance Management : The manual method of recording attendance in registers was replaced by installation of biometric readers. Biometric readers have been installed at sixteen locations in the two townships. Thereaders have provision for recording Check-in, Check-out, Lunch-out and Lunch-in. A software package has been developed in house, that calculates the working hours, shortfalls, absence and extra hours put in by the employee. Each employee can view his attendance record and the Section Head can view the attendance records of all the employees in the Section.

Hospital Information System :The DAE Hospital at Kalpakkam Township provides medical services to about 30,000 beneficiaries, including 2000 members of families of retired personnel. Hospital Information System is being implemented to streamline processes within the hospital, reduce patient waiting time and improve the efficiency. The comprehensive software package has over twenty modules that are being implemented in a phased manner. Registration,Doctors consultation, Pathology Laboratory, Stores are some modules that are being used. The installation of Kiosks for issuing tokens has been welcomed by all the users.

Estate Management Automation System (emas) :The estate management section is responsible for house allotments, maintenance of seniority lists for allotment of quarters, guest house and multipurpose hall allotments. Allotment of accommodation in hostels is also handled by this section. A software package has been developed for computerisation of the activities of the Estate Management Section. Employees can now apply for accommodation, view seniority lists, check the status of their applications etc online.

GSO Complaints Management System (gcms) : Maintenance and upkeep of the townships is one of the essential responsibilities of the Engineering Services Group. Previously, complaints registers were maintained at the GSO office to record the complaints. A software package has been developed in house for Online Complaints Management. The software can be accessed through the intranet. Residents can log in their complaints and check the status online.
