Mechanical team in GSO consists of Mechanical Systems Section (MSS), Autoshop and Scientific Information and Documentation (SID).
Mechanical Systems Section:
MSS looks after the smooth and continuous running of Air-conditioning systems in operation theatre, patient wards of DAE hospital and other office buildings of GSO. MSS is also responsible for the construction safety of high rise building sites along with road safety. Mechanical Systems Section takes care of operation and maintenance of water treatment plant, Sewage treatment plant and water supply in both the townships. MSS looks after the Fire hydrants systems in High rise buildings.
Autoshop:
Autoshop is part of Mechanical Wing of GSO performing all the Preventive Maintenance and Repairs of 92 Registered Vehicles & Equipments and 129 Eco friendly Electric Two Wheelers plying at Kalpakkam campus, pertaining to IGCAR, GSO, BARC (F), CISF, NDDP, DPS etc.,
Scientific Information and Documentation:
Scientific Information and Documentation (SID) is responsible for developing proper Library facility and other Scientific information resources at GSO. SID also taking care Digitization of all Administration records and Master Services Group records of GSO.
Air conditioning & Ventilation Wing, MSS:
AC & V wing caters all the HVAC needs of GSO which includes Design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of HVAC systems and their maintenance thereof. AC&V has more than 720 nos of AC equipment with over all capacity of 1300 TR installed at two townships in 56 office buildings spread across 15 Km span. The equipment includes water chiller packages, VRF AC systems, air handling units, packaged airconditioners, vertical airconditioners, Window airconditioners, split airconditioners, multi split units, ductable split units, water coolers, refrigerators, deep freezers, milk chilling units, mortuary chamber etc. About 270TR capacity of AC equipment are in the queue for installation. It mainly takes care of operation and maintenance of airconditioning systems of Operation theatre and various wards of DAE Hospital in round the clock basis. AC team also takes care of Design and construction activities of new upcoming buildings like GSO Annex building and Guest house cum Officers’ hostel building, Multipurpose hall, JRF mess block etc.
Mechanical Maintenance wing , Anupuram,MSS:
Mechanical maintenance wing Anupuram takes care of Complete Maintenance of Pumps, Valves etc., including the Operation & Maintenance of Water treatment plant, Water supply & Sewage treatment system and Maintenance of Portable water purifiers in DAE Township, Kalpakkam and Anupuram. A fully dedicated treatment plant of 0.6 MGD capacity to cater clear potable water for domestic purpose except for gardening. The water received from palar river basins/wells are treated in this plant and supplied through pipeline network system. Sewage treatment plant to manage water discharged from quarters and Public office Buildings to reduce the threat of water pollution and making the best use of the sewage treated water for Gardening thereby maintaining the greeny atmosphere in the Township.
Mechanical Maintenance wing , Kalpakkam,MSS:
Mechanical Maintenance wing, Kalpakkam is responsible for Operation and Maintenance of Water treatment plant and Sewage treatment plant at Kalpakkam. The capacity of the water treatment plant is 1 MGD and Sewage treatment plant capacity is 1.2 MGD. It also operate and maintain the two pump houses one in Pudupattinam and the other in Sadras for water supply and four sewage lift stations to transfer the sewage water to the sewage treatment plant.
Fire Hydrant System, MSS:
The activities of fire hydrant system include design, installation and operation of fire hydrant system along with sprinkler system for high rise residential tower blocks and office buildings of General services organization. Design of fire hydrant system is carried out as per the Part IV : Life safety of National Building Code. Fire hydrant pipelines including fire water risers upto the top floor of the tower block is maintained under pressure by operating jockey pump, Electrical operated pump and diesel operated pump.
Industrial safety, MSS:
Industrial safety wing, Mechanical System Section is taking care of safety in the construction activities of High rise buildings in GSO. Safety wing has taken initiative to implement the safety practices in a systematic manner for the safe execution of the construction projects in both the Townships. Especially safety during the construction of Tower block projects is the main function of industrial safety wing in GSO. Safety wing carries out the Safety Induction Training program for all the workers based on their trade and trains the workers to wear Personal Protective Equipment to carry out the construction work safely at construction sites. Safety wing introduced height pass test system in GSO. Each worker has to undergo height pass test to get qualified to work at heights. Height pass test includes, medical fitness certificate approved by certified surgeon and physical fitness test conducted by IS wing. The qualified workers are issued valid height work permit for one year and those workers only are permitted to work at heights.
Autoshop:
Autoshop is part of Mechanical Wing of GSO performing all the Preventive Maintenance and Repairs of 92 Registered Vehicles & Equipments and 129 Eco friendly Electric Two Wheelers plying at Kalpakkam campus, pertaining to IGCAR, GSO, BARC (F), CISF, NDDP, DPS etc., There are 40 different varieties / models of vehicles being maintained by Autoshop. The following are the works carried out by Autoshop on the above vehicles.

Routine Preventive Maintenance Works of all vehicles as per the maintenance schedule of fortnight, monthly and once in 45 days to the respective category of vehicles.

Major Preventive Maintenance Works of all vehicles as per the schedule recommended by the respective vehicle manufacturers.

Maintaining the commercial category vehicles and getting Fitness Certificate from the Road Transport Officer (RTO), Chengalpat every year of around 40 Vehicles.

All the breakdowns of the Ambulances and all other critical vehicles on 24 X 7 basis.

General Preventive Maintenance and Repairs of Strategic Special Nuclear Material (SNM) Transport Vehicles which are visiting Kalpakkam from various BARC Units regularly.

Preventive Maintenance and Repairs of variety of Garage Equipments including Air Compressor, Hoists, HP Car Washer, Machines, Inflators etc.,

All the necessary services and repairs of all Two Wheelers including Electric & Engine Powered.

Continuous improvements on the upgradation of facilities at Autoshop including introduction of Nitrogen to all DAE vehicles, SS compressed air circuit, semi automatic tyre changers, coil type compressed air drop downs etc.,

Re-belting/ Retreading of the Tyres to maximise the utility of Tyres through authorised retreaders etc.,
