The medical facility in DAE, Kalpakkam was started in the year 1967 as a first aid centre, later it was converted into a dispensary in the year 1969 with the recruitment of medical officers. Over a period of time it evolved slowly into a secondary level center after the addition of various specialties. Contributory Health Service Scheme [CHSS] of DAE has been introduced with effect from 1.8.1993 at Kalpakkam / Chennai. At present, there are 23 specialists and 15 general duty medical officers in DAE, Kalpakkam serving DAE Hospital, Anupuram dispensary and First Aid Centre's in IGCAR, MAPS and PFBR for beneficiary population of around 27000.

The Hospital situated at the centre of the Kalpakkam Township provides medical services to about 27,000 beneficiaries. All the employees of DAE/NPCIL/BHAVINI units situated at Kalpakkam, and their dependants are covered under Contributory Health Services Scheme. A Dispensary is functioning at Anupuram Township for the benefit of the residents at Anupuram and also an Occupational Health Centre (OHC) is functioning at IGCAR Site.
