Eligibility

• Students in Post Graduate Programme only
• Students from any Institution are eligible and accommodation will be provided based on availability on chargeable basis at the prevailing rates
• Only Indian Nationals are permitted

Duration of the Project Work

• Project work for longer duration typically for one semester duration (3 to 8 months) are encouraged. Short term projects and In-plant Training are not permitted.

Procedure

• Post Graduate Students have to submit a project request addressed to dirsec@igcar.gov.in / shure@igcar.gov.in
• The received requests will be circulated to all Senior colleagues of the Centre for getting the approval for carrying out the project work and identifying the suitable guide
• Based on the inputs received from the Senior Colleagues, the requests are processed further after the approval of Director
• Only limited accommodation is available and after ascertaining the availability of the accommodation, necessary forms will be forwarded to the students along with the approval letter via email
• In case of wards of DAE employee, the parent should submit a formal request letter with the approval of the guide identified by them
• It is mandatory for the students to submit a report of the work carried out during the period of their stay at IGCAR

Procedure for getting entry permit from CISF

• After submitting all the above documents, Director will approve the proposal and give approval letter
• The students have to meet the Administrative Officer along with temporary entry permit (two numbers), Undertaking form and the covering letter given by Director
• The student has to collect the two entry permit forms from the Administration and submit the same along with Security Clearance form, Police verification form, Xerox copy of the ID card and the covering letter addressed to Commandant, CISF at Main Gate
• Student has to collect the entry permit, duly signed by Commandant, at the Main Gate after signing in the register kept at Main Gate
• Student has to submit a copy of the covering letter at Transport Section at Kalpakkam Township to get bus pass on payment basis
• One copy of the covering letter is to be handed over to Estate officer, GSO for getting accommodation
• One copy of the covering letter is to be handed over to the Guide

• IGCAR is dedicated to the development of robust fast reactor technology and associated closed fuel cycle reprocessing technologies based on multi-disciplinary research. The Centre has comprehensive R&D facilities covering the entire spectrum of FBR technology related to Sodium Technology, Reactor Engineering, Reactor Physics, Metallurgy and Materials Science, Chemistry of Fuels, Coolant and other Nuclear Materials, Fuel Reprocessing, Reactor Safety, Control and Instrumentation including Computer Applications. Some of the major and unique facilities include, Fast Breeder Test Reactor, KAMINI experimental reactor, Sodium Technology facilities, Structural Mechanics Laboratory, Accelerator, Simulator, Weather radars, facilities for emergency preparedness etc.
• IGCAR facilitates the visit of young and talented students to our institution, to give them an exposure to the multi-disciplinary R&D being pursued in the various domains of Fast Reactors and associated Closed Fuel Cycle Technologies. Pre- Final / Final year undergraduate and post-graduate students in Science, Engineering, & in disciplines of relevance to our programmes are encouraged to visit our Centre. As a special commemoration to 70 years of formation of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), school children are also permitted to visit this year (2024-Aug 2025)
