Environmental impact / dose assessment for radiological and chemical contaminants by modelling transport and dispersion in environment along with focussed R&D towards development of Decision Support Systems with RS/GIS
  Environmental monitoring in air, water and soils within Kalpakkam complex and establishment of environmental radiation monitoring network for all the facilities. It pursues studies on radionuclide transfer factors in marine and terrestrial environment, radon/thoron diffusion and monitoring in indoor and outdoor environs, and dose assessment for marine biota. monitoring of meteorological parameters,weather TLD personnel monitoring services for occupational workers, Biodosimetry services, retrospective dosimetry. for catering the Quality Assurance, Inspection, NDT and Quality Audit activities to all the Groups of this Centre during procurement fabrication, construction, fabrication and erection for the R&D and other projects carried out at IGCAR and other DAE units.
  Carrying out R&D related to radiological and environmental safety of fast breeder reactor technology, terrestrial and marine biodiversity around the facility. Exploring application of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation to societal benefits
 Irradiation services for R&D in agricultural and medical fields for respective agencies.
  Calibration services to all Gamma and Neutron monitors using the accredited Regional Calibration Laboratory; testing of HEPA and Iodine filters of radioactive facilities NABL accredited.
  Conducting public awareness program
  SIRD caters to the information needs of Scientists, Engineers, Research Scholars, and students of various DAE Units at Kalpakkam.
 Assessing and projecting human resource needs of the Centre towards effective deployment and utilization of available manpower.
  Formulation of Capital Projects and Annual Budget (Capital Budget) of IGCAR.
 Responsible for conducting the academic programmes of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) and BARC Training School at IGCAR
